Mett & Gladys Safe Haven Mission, Vision and Values

Mission Statement: Is to improve the lives of the vulnerable population experiencing homelessness by providing transitional housing and services that will empower them to improve the quality and build secure and safe lives.

 

Vision Statement: Our vision is to live in a community where all families will have a place to call their home, provide a model to enable the homeless population to obtain affordable housing. 

 

Values:

A commitment to respond to the specific needs of our population no matter how complex. We will not shy away from difficult cases that require extra attention, understanding and care.

 

Work with each guest in supporting them to set achievable and realistic goals that will enable them to work towards a safe, sustainable and happy future.

 

To help our guests realize the value of their labor and the contribution they can make to building a better society.

 

To foster and grow a community of guest and volunteers built on a commitment to care, understand and respect. Mett & Gladys Safe Haven is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of its staff, guest and volunteers.

Meet Our Board

Meet Our Executive Board of Directors

Founder/Chair

Tasheka King is the daughter of Mett and Gladys. She is the founder of Mett & Gladys Safe Haven. Tasheka is a native of Shallotte, North Carolina. She is a notary, travel agent, event planner and a grant writer. She is also on the advisory board with WECT news. She has a love for working with people and building great rapport with them. She has been working with different organizations in the community for a numerous of years. She has a passion for working with kids and the elderly. She is ready for change in her community and her favorite words are anything is possible, if you only believe.

Vice Chair

Sharon Respus is a humble Servant-Leader that believes that the gifts that God blessed us with are to be utilized to serve others. She is a minister, mentor, and loves to serve her community. Sharon has obtained her master’s degree and is currently pursuing her Doctorate degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Leadership. Sharon always has such a positive attitude and is very eager to help in any way she can. Sharon serves on several nonprofit organization boards and is a founder of Women of Excellence, Inc. She is also the proud mother of one daughter whom she loves dearly and currently resides in Brunswick County. 


Secretary

Tara Hutchinson is a 15+ year career C-Suite certified administrative professional who is a  native of Paterson, New Jersey with maternal roots in Brunswick County, North Carolina and  paternal roots in Lee County, South Carolina. She is a poet, author, activist, and lifelong  community servant, without restrictions. Tara seeks and values partnerships that align to empower and reinvigorate vulnerable populations towards their full potential in becoming  productive citizens. She prides herself in being an Impactful Servant-Leader who loves to give back and enjoys being a small part of rebound and success stories. This shining example of a  charitable heart is a registered and active volunteer for multiple not-for-profit community  service organizations in New Jersey, Georgia, and now North Carolina. She is happily married  and currently residing in the greater Metro Atlanta, Georgia area.

Treasurer

Joshua Brown is a 3+ years teller supervisor who is native of Longwood, North Carolina (Brunswick County).  He is a leader who desires to go above and beyond to help anyone he can. He has worked in the county with youth and families in various activities such as coaching, after school tutoring, along with volunteering his services to help distribute contributions for holiday giveaways and back to school drives. Joshua loves to give back to the community and being an example for others. He is a proud father of one daughter. Joshua currently resides in Shallotte, North Carolina. 


Assistant Treasurer

Yasmine Berry is a native of Brunswick County. She has one daughter and she's engaged. She works for the government, she also has a background in customer service. She love helping people and giving back to the community. She have volunteered for the Holmes Foundation, her Church, and many others. “ She believes in order to move forward you have to give back”.

on 2/17/2021 Mett & Gladys Safe Haven and BHO came together and provided breakfast for the first responders working in ocean ridge this morning. So glad we were able to assist them and thank them for all of their hard work. Let’s continue to keep this community and others that have been impacted by this storm in our prayers.
